Oddities and specialties of Utila

My usual mode of transportation is a bike but last week I decided to walk since  it’s easier to capture life, with a camera in hand, on foot.  Here are some oddities of… Continue reading

New uniforms. Smiling faces. Joy. Joy. Joy.

Last Thursday and Friday we  delivered brand new uniforms to some of the children of Centro Educación Básica República de Honduras. Hopefully it was the first of many “deliveries” we make to the… Continue reading

Glimpse into the underwater world

For the first time in many, many sleeps I submerged myself into the underwater world last weekend. It was a beautiful, hot afternoon and my roomy and I decided to put everything else… Continue reading

Some things never get old

There are probably a trillion+ images of sunrises and sunsets floating around on the internet, in scrapbooks, in bins, in photo albums, or even in your back pocket. I never get tired of… Continue reading

Abandoned drug plane. Add it to Utila’s airplane boneyard.

There are many beautiful aspects of living here on the island of Utila. Many people think it would be absolute paradise to live on an island in the Caribbean. Before you get lost… Continue reading

28 shirts. 39 pants. 29 skirts. 27 boys shoes. 24 girls shoes.

At the beginning of the week we heard of a scheduled power outage for the entire island  from 6am-4pm on Wednesday (3.14.12) and that just happened to be the day we planned on… Continue reading

One life at a time.

As I have spent time in parts of this beautiful island where there are many people in extreme poverty, I have to balance the feeling of being overwhelmed with knowing that I can… Continue reading

$200 in 60 minutes

Can you think of a time where you spent $200 on something? Do you remember what it was? Do you still have it? Did you take pictures of it? Was it for yourself,… Continue reading

No uniform. No education.

I am not sure why the Honduran public school system has this particular rule, but if the children do not come in uniform to school they are not allowed in. Many families have… Continue reading

Slow Down. Look Up. Be Grateful.

It is so powerful and uplifting when you practice thankfulness. Every morning I write all the things that I am grateful for that happened the previous day and then all the things I… Continue reading

My car: the bike

So, for the first time since my single-digit years, I get around on a bike. I haven’t got around to putting stickers on it or attaching the tassle-thingy’s on my handlebars, but it… Continue reading

Trash as landfill. Some people’s way of life.

Unfortunately, this is how many parts of the world look. A piece of land in the middle of many houses becomes the garbage dump and serves as a landfill. Unlike the American way… Continue reading

Sunrise in Utila

  • A Little About Me

My name is Jill. I’m a writer, deep thinker and on a quest to BE PRESENT and BE LOVE. I’m an ex-churchgoer. I’ve lived in 27 different places in my life. I was once an island dweller and I’ve been a pioneer in a handful of start-up organizations in the USA, Switzerland, and Honduras. Oh and I should mention that I was a real 40-yr-old virgin  when I came out. I hope to validate others experiences in abusive churches by sharing my stories and truths. I want you to leave here thinking differently and honoring that still small voice within you.
